Claude Science: an AI workbench for researchers

Anthropic released Claude Science in beta on June 30, 2026, for Claude Pro, Max, Team, and Enterprise users. It's a customizable app that pulls the tools scientists already use — PubMed, Jupyter, R, cluster terminals — into one environment, and runs locally on macOS or Linux, or on a remote machine over SSH or an HPC login node. Users interact with a coordinating agent that has access to over 60 curated skills and connectors pre-configured for genomics, single-cell, proteomics, structural biology, and cheminformatics. It renders 3D protein structures, genome browser tracks, and chemical structures natively. Every figure ships with the exact code, environment, plain-language description, and full message history that produced it. A reviewer agent checks citations and calculations, flagging and correcting errors as pipelines run. Compute is drafted, submitted, and scaled to the lab's own HPC over SSH or to a Modal account, from a single GPU to hundreds. Sessions can be forked to compare two approaches without losing the original thread. Claude Science uses NVIDIA's BioNeMo Agent Toolkit to connect to models including Evo 2, Boltz-2, and OpenFold3. Anthropic writes that "scientific research is inherently visual, so Claude Science generates figures and manuscripts alongside the code that created them."
